Lots of A-list celebrities have been flocking to Asheville in the recent weeks for a variety of reasons. Highlighting that list is actor Woody Harrelson, who was spotted playing chess in a downtown park with the locals. Harrelson is no stranger to filming in Asheville, as he starred as Haymitch in the popular “Hunger Games” series. Harrelson is currently filming “Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri”. The movie is a dark comedy that also stars prominent names like Peter Dinklage and Frances McDormand.
In addition to Harrelson, Jennifer Lopez has also been spotted in Asheville at the local Kilwin’s ice cream shop. Contrary to Harrelson’s reason for visiting, Lopez is simply enjoying herself in town while her boyfriend Casper Smart is a cast member in the remake of “Dirty Dancing”.
Asheville’s scenery appeal is the reason for Asheville being chosen to be the setting of the new “Dirty Dancing” remake. Celebrities of the cast include Nicole Scherzinger and Katey Sagal. While the movie is still in its beginning phases, the budget is supposedly A-grade.
Needless to say, Asheville’s natural attraction and ties with nature have made it a recent hub of filmmaking activity. Such memorable titles like “Cold Mountain” and “Last of the Mohicans” have single-handedly generated millions of dollars of revenue to the city. The recent blockbuster “Masterminds” starring Zach Galifianakis once again featured Asheville as a prominent setting. It’s clear that the mountain appeal is not dwindling, and that Asheville is going to be relevant for years to come. Make sure you bring something to be autographed next time you visit, as it’s totally unknown just who you will run into.
